Johnstone Muthangya – Founder & CEO
Started as Promise Self Help Group with 16 members. Johnstone Muthangya introduced table banking, and the group acquired assets including land, tents, and M-Pesa capabilities.
Johnstone proposed graduating to a SACCO. Forward-thinking members formed Lato SACCO Ltd in October. First meeting contributed Ksh. 2,400, supplemented with Ksh. 2,000.
Now serving 6,117 members with 21 staff across 4 branches. Operating on Watano group-based setup for sustainable lending and community empowerment.

Before Lato SACCO, I was renting a bodaboda and paying almost 800 shillings daily. I heard about their asset finance loans and decided to try. Within three months of consistent savings, I got approved for a loan to buy my own motorcycle. Now I'm the boss! I pay my loan monthly, and all the profit is mine. The shade structures they built also protect us from the sun. These people truly care about our community.
What I love most about Lato SACCO is the personal touch. When I had challenges repaying during the drought season, they worked with me to restructure my loan instead of harassing me like other lenders. The staff knows my name, my business, and my family.
